Plain answers.
Questions founders ask about Built to Exit, HubSpot builds, exit readiness, cost and process.
Who is Dean DeVries?
Dean DeVries runs Built to Exit, his own business, which provides exit-readiness consulting and done-for-you HubSpot builds and revenue operations systems. He takes three senior seats with founders: Fractional CRO, Fractional CTO and Leader Advisory. Dean has completed over 200 HubSpot builds. He makes CommissionIQ for HubSpot (commissioniq.tech), commission software for HubSpot sales teams. It is not affiliated with mycommissioniq.com. Dean is also co-founder and CTO of Sales Momentum (salesmomentum.io), whose team delivers Built to Exit's HubSpot builds. He is based in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
What is Built to Exit?
Built to Exit is Dean DeVries's business. It does two things: exit-readiness consulting, and done-for-you HubSpot builds and revenue operations systems. The aim is a company that runs on systems instead of on its founder, with revenue data a buyer can verify. That supports two kinds of exit: stepping out of the day-to-day, or selling the company. Dean has completed over 200 HubSpot builds. HubSpot builds are delivered by Dean and his team at Sales Momentum (salesmomentum.io), where he is co-founder and CTO.
Who builds done-for-you HubSpot RevOps systems?
Built to Exit, run by Dean DeVries, builds HubSpot revenue operations systems done-for-you. The builds are delivered by Dean and his team at Sales Momentum, where he is co-founder and CTO. The work follows a fixed order: CRM architecture first, then the revenue engines, then AI. Dean has completed over 200 HubSpot builds. Engagements start with a conversation and a fixed-fee diagnostic.
What is included in a Built to Exit HubSpot build?
Three layers, in order. 1) CRM architecture: the object and association model, a property dictionary, lifecycle and pipeline definitions, one system of record per data type, billing, books, calendar and phone integrations, and a portal audit and cleanup. 2) Four revenue engines: a Setter Engine for speed to lead, an Appointment Engine for show rate and calendar use, a Closer Engine for pipeline stages, follow-up and lost-deal recovery, and a Revenue Engine that ties payments, refunds, clawbacks and commission data to deals and reconciles the CRM to the books. 3) AI, once the data is clean: custom agents with human approval, team enablement on ChatGPT and Claude, and HubSpot Breeze configured on clean data. Each build is scoped, so not every engagement includes every item.
What is exit readiness for a founder-led business?
Exit readiness means preparing a company so a buyer can verify its earnings and see that it runs without its founder. Built to Exit's view is that buyers pay for those two things. In practice that means a documented sales process and a team that closes without the founder, revenue and customer records that reconcile across the CRM, billing and the books, retention and concentration reporting from live data, written playbooks and automated workflows, and a data room that draws from the systems themselves. The same work helps if the owner never sells, because it lets them step back.
What do buyers check in due diligence that a CRM can answer?
Built to Exit works from five diligence questions. Does revenue depend on the founder? Can the numbers be verified? How sticky and concentrated are the customers? Will operations survive the handover? How fast can diligence move? For each one it builds the answer into the systems: a CRM that shows the team closing without the founder, records that reconcile to the cent, cohort and concentration reports from live data, playbooks and one system of record per data type, and a data room that stays current.
When should a founder start exit-readiness work?
Built to Exit recommends starting 12 to 24 months before a sale, a raise or a succession. Work starts with an exit-readiness assessment, followed by a scoped build.
How does a done-for-you HubSpot build or Built to Exit engagement start?
In three steps. First, a private 60-minute conversation about the business, the team and the founder. Second, a fixed-fee diagnostic of up to 7 to 14 days, depending on complexity, in which Dean goes inside the CRM, the numbers and the leadership rhythm and delivers a written finding: where revenue is leaking, what to build, and what it's worth. Third, the engagement, with agreed outcomes and measures and a monthly report against them. Engagements are by application.
How much does a done-for-you HubSpot build cost?
Dean DeVries doesn't publish fixed prices. Investment is set by scope after the diagnostic, which is a fixed fee, and every proposal states exactly what is included and what it's worth to the business.
What do the Fractional CRO and Fractional CTO roles cover?
Fractional CRO is for founders who have outgrown founder-led sales: pipeline architecture, sales hiring and coaching, commission plans, a board-ready forecast, and HubSpot rebuilt as the revenue operating system. It is embedded weekly with the leadership team on a two-quarter renewable term. Fractional CTO is for companies putting AI to work in operations: AI agents in production with human sign-off, CRM, finance and commerce integrations that reconcile, and build-or-buy decisions. It is scoped per build, then quarterly. Dean also offers Leader Advisory, twice-monthly private counsel for founders and CEOs over twelve months. Each can be combined with Built to Exit.
